Last post this Year!

Festive classroom scene shows realistic robot in Santa hat beside ginger cat typing Scratch code on laptop with Christmas lights

After doing a lot more research than I had initially, I decided to change the name to Tinkimo. It comes from the word tinkerer, which felt like a great fit for the spirit of experimenting, learning, and trying things out. I also wanted to invent a completely new word, so it’s unique and hopefully avoids any naming headaches in the future.

Since my last post, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about where this project could actually go as a real thing. Not just an idea, but something practical and genuinely useful.

The big goal is to get to a point where this could help schools bring robotics and AI into the classroom with confidence, rather than it feeling daunting or risky.

I’ve been spending time researching what schools actually need and where I could create something that makes life easier for teachers. Along the way, I had a very exciting realisation: Scratch is open source 🎉

That means it can be modified.

I’ve now got Scratch running locally, and it’s possible to embed it directly into this website and create a custom Scratch-like link that talks to my own devices. The real challenge, and opportunity, is making that experience feel seamless, in the same way tools like micro:bit and LEGO just work without friction.

Next step is talking to teachers. I’m hoping to have some conversations in the new year to understand what would genuinely help in the classroom, rather than guessing from the outside.

This will be my last post of the year. If you’re celebrating Christmas, I hope you have a lovely one 🎄

I’m really looking forward to seeing what the new year brings.
