Today was another big milestone for the Tinkibots – they’re getting quite use to being out meeting people. The last couple of weeks have been a bit of a blur firstly preparing for the pilot in the schools then getting ready to run a workshop at the Life In AI event in Plymouth.
I only had 2 working robots, but managed to cobble together another two from the various “left-over” parts I had kicking around, over some very long nights. Those robots did feel a little like something that Frankenstein would be proud of.
The Life In AI event was amazing with lots of interesting things going on everywhere. My favourite was the robots that were brought by the University of Plymouth, and the robots have certainly progress over the years since I have left!
As part of my involvement at the day I presented a short presentation around how I have used AI throught out the project, leveraging the research capabilities but also the power of vibe-coding, and vibing hardware design too. I was worried that nobody would turn up but lots of people turned up – and hopefully enjoyed it!
The second part of my involvement was to hold a workshop where people could play with the Tinkibots. I firstly presented my vision for Tinkimo before letting people use them and again the room was very full. When it came to letting people play with the Tinkibots they were very enthusiastic and soon had the robots performing tasks, including using the ultrasonic sensors. It was great to know that the hard work has resulted in a platform that is easy to use and people just “get”. I was extremely grateful for my daughter to come along and help anyone that got stuck with getting started.
I want to thank the Life In AI team for allowing me to be part of this amazing event and especially Matt Fleming for being such a great host.
Terri
